• Endurance is a 2001 Catalina 36 sailboat, specially chosen by Captain Alex as the ideal vessel for teaching sailing and comfortable cruising with charter guests. She has a large cockpit that seats up to six and sails extremely well in all conditions. Down below, she features two private cabins and a large “head” (bathroom in mariner lingo). The Endurance is a U.S. Coast Guard-documented vessel fully equipped for your comfort aboard.

  • Experience your custom-designed sailing adventure! Are you interested in an adventurous sail with your friends or creating memories with your family? Or perhaps a romantic sunset cruise? A private charter is more personal and more tailored to exactly what you want to do.

  • Aspasia Marina is located at 257 Front Street, in South Portland next to Saltwater Grill.

  • You may park on Front Street.

  • Although it may be warm on land, it is often much cooler on the water. We recommend wearing a windbreaker and/or layers that can be taken off if you get too warm. Rain jackets are encouraged as Maine weather can be quite unpredictable. Wear comfortable shoes or sneakers. You may want to be barefoot anyway. Heels are not allowed on the boat and the crew will request that they be taken off before your trip. Don’t forget your sunscreen and sunglasses, but don’t worry if you do as we have a few loaners and some community sunscreen.

  • We recommend making sure that you arrive 15 minutes early for your charter because we know that unforeseen circumstances can cause people to be late.

If you are going to be late, please call us. We generally do not offer refunds for those who are late but we are happy to reschedule you for another time or date.

  • It happens, but that won’t hold us back. The Endurance does great as a motorsailer. We’ll take the opportunity to do a little sightseeing with the 35 Hp diesel engine and you’ll learn some interesting facts and stories about Casco Bay and Maine’s maritime history.

  • Yes, as long as you enjoy it responsibly. We have a built-in fridge to store beverages. There are a few grocery and sandwich stores within five minutes from our pick up/drop off point which sell spirits, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. We do not have a liquor license, so we cannot serve you alcohol. We trust our guests to drink responsibly, but the Captain always reserves the right to decide when enough is enough.

  • As a former school teacher, Captain Alex loves children. Our charters are appropriate for all ages. We do not have room for strollers on board so it is best to bring a carrier if you are bringing a small child.

  • We rarely witness people getting seasick on our boats. Sailboats are much different than power boats as the sails act as natural stabilizers preventing that choppy feeling you get on a powerboat. If you are worried about it, we recommend taking seasickness medication well before your sailing time.

  • Yes. Our boat has the required Coast Guard-regulated amount of life jackets on board. Adults are not required to wear one during our sails, children are encouraged to do so when on deck. If you feel more comfortable wearing one, get the attention of your captain or deckhand and they will provide one for you.

  • Yes, we have a marine head (that’s boat lingo) available but we do recommend that you use the facilities at the marina before you depart.

  • Maine weather can be unpredictable. Therefore, it is hard to build our schedule around days that will be rainy. If it is raining hard during the time of your sail, reach out to our dockside administrator and we will reschedule or refund your tickets. We do not refund tickets for overcasts and clouds. Endurance has both a dodger and a bimini (overhead shade and weather protection.)

  • Plans get made and things change. We live in that world too. We will refund the full price of your booking if you cancel at least 72 hours before your scheduled charter. For cancellations any closer to the time of your scheduled charter, we’ll work with you to rebook—if possible— an alternate date. If that doesn’t work, we will refund 50% of your booking payment. If we have to cancel a charter for any reason (including weather, maintenance, emergencies, etc.), you will receive a 100% refund or the opportunity to rebook for a different date.

  • Although we love dogs, our commercial liability insurer prohibits pets on board during commercial operations.

  • Absolutely! Our guests charter with us for different reasons, and you can be as hands-on as you choose. Some come to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery, while others want to learn how to sail. Captain Alex has taught many people how to sail and will gladly introduce you to the “basics” while on your charter – including how to drive the boat and trim the sails.

  • Unless it is raining, you generally will not get wet. If you choose to sit on the bow during a windy day, you might get a little spray of water.
